Laser-induced damage in dielectrics with nanosecond to subpicosecond pulses.
Our extensive measurements of damage thresholds for fused silica and several fluorides (LiF, CaF, MgF and BaF) at 1053 and 526 nm for pulse durations, 2, ranging from 275 fs to 1 ns are reported elsewhere at this meeting. A theoretical model based on electron production via multiphoton ionization, Joule heating, and collisional (avalanche) ionization is in good agreement with experimental results.
متن کاملInvestigations of femtosecond-nanosecond dual-beam laser ablation of dielectrics.
We have conducted experimental investigations for the micromachining of dielectrics (fused silica) using an integrated femtosecond (fs) and nanosecond (ns) dual-beam laser system at different time delays between the fs and ns pulses. We found that the maximum ablation enhancement occurs when the fs pulse is shot near the peak of the ns pulse envelope. Enhancements up to 13.4 times in ablation d...
متن کاملNanosecond near-spinodal homogeneous boiling of water superheated by a pulsed CO2 laser.
The fast boiling dynamics of superheated surface layers of bulk water cavitating under near-spinodal conditions during nanosecond CO2 laser heating pulses was studied using contact broad-band photoacoustic spectroscopy. Characteristic pressure-tension cycles recorded by an acoustic transducer at different incident laser fluences represent (a) weak random oscillations of transient nanometer-size...
متن کاملPicosecond absorption relaxation measured with nanosecond laser photoacoustics.
Picosecond absorption relaxation-central to many disciplines-is typically measured by ultrafast (femtosecond or picosecond) pump-probe techniques, which however are restricted to optically thin and weakly scattering materials or require artificial sample preparation. Here, we developed a reflection-mode relaxation photoacoustic microscope based on a nanosecond laser and measured picosecond abso...
متن کاملNanosecond temperature jump relaxation dynamics of cyclic beta-hairpin peptides.
The thermal unfolding of a series of 6-, 10-, and 14-mer cyclic beta-hairpin peptides was studied to gain insight into the mechanism of formation of this important secondary structure. The thermodynamics of the transition were characterized using temperature dependent Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Thermodynamic data were analyzed using a two-state model which indicates increasing coo...
